The Australian Medicines Industry Launches New Website for Public

The Australian Medicines Industry has launched a new public website that seeks to raise awareness of the industry’s contribution to the health and wealth of the nation.

The Australian Medicines Industry spokesman Dr Brendan Shaw said the website is part of a broader initiative to explain to the public who the industry is and what it does.
“Most Australians don’t stop and think about where their medicines come from,” Dr Shaw said.
“Many people don’t really know that we have a medicines industry in Australia. The point of this initiative is to get Australia thinking about The Australian Medicines Industry.”
“It’s a big industry. It exports $ 4 billion a year, which is more than the car industry and more than the wine industry. It brings $ 1 billion of research investment into Australia each year and employs 14,000 Australians in high-value jobs.
“But the irony is that most Australians don’t know about that. So this initiative is about having a conversation with the public about what the industry does and getting the public excited and proud.
“There’s a whole range of ordinary Australians doing extraordinary things and we want to get that message out there.
“I think it’s a fantastic story. The Australian public may be pleasantly surprised to discover the contribution the industry makes.”
The Australian Medicines Industry website will carry information about making medicines, using medicines, the history of medicines, career advice, job advertisements and a regular industry blog by Dr Shaw.
